Public Reception

Join us at the historic Turner House as we host this unique event for the tenth year. Rising Star promotes undiscovered talent and raises funds in our continuing efforts to restore Turner House. We invite a select group of area galleries to nominate an artist for the exhibit. Last year 24 works of art were purchased, the artists gaining exposure and recognition from a new audience. This year’s attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, wines and signature cocktails.

EVENT VISION:  Inaugurated in 2013, Rising Star highlights “rising star” artists nominated by prestigious Dallas and Fort Worth galleries. Past gallery participation has included: Barry Whistler Gallery, Conduit Gallery, Cris Worley Fine Arts, Erin Cluley Gallery, Pencil on Paper Gallery, Craighead Green, David Dike Fine Arts, Talley Dunn Gallery, Valley House Gallery, Artspace 111, Fort Works Art and William Campbell Fine Arts. This year we are offering a purchase award for one work to be added to the OCSFA art collection.

LOCATION:  Turner House (the home of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts), is located in the Winnetka Heights Historic District in North Oak Cliff @ 401 N Rosemont Ave.

HISTORY:  The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts was originally established at the home studio of the “renowned Dallas” artist Frank Reaugh in 1926. When founding member and former president Mrs. E.P. Turner passed away in 1938, the family home was deeded to the OCSFA. Plans for what would become Interstate 35 forced the E.P. Turner House to relocate to its current location where today It continues to be a vital part of the community. Turner House has been hosting art exhibits for more than 80 years, including recent exhibits highlighting works of The Dallas Nine, Women Artists of the Texas Centennial and works by contemporary Oak Cliff artists. The organization received the 2013 Stewardship Award from Preservation Dallas for its decades-long commitment to historic preservation.

COMMITTEE:  Petrine Abrahams,  Jennifer Cowley, Kenda North
